EL Guapo, the point is that the Yankees did not suddenly change philosophies. They couldn't spend as much cause they already spent too much. The second that money starts coming off, the Yankees will spend it again. They were not rebuilding they were managing under the weight of some bad money.

Well, call it what you want; they have a pretty good team and they are younger than years past -- with even more very good young talent on the way -- and a lot of that "bad money" coming off the books.
How come when we say it, it sounds like praise, good management, and when Anthony says it, he appears to be criticizing New York on the very same points. heh heh

I think the point was it’s comical for the ny media/yanks to complain about not getting treated right just because someone snubbed them - when the yanks have the biggest built in advantage in all of American sports based on $. It’s gone to their heads thinking they actually are the capital baseball, so when someone busts their bubble, those outside of NY enjoy the hypocrisy of anyone from NY crying it’s unfair.

I'm not criticizing, so much as critiquing what appears to be entitlement from Yankees fans because for ONCE, they didn't get a guy they coveted. For once, money wasn't what the player desired most. You mentioned the Yankees haven't been spending money, that they've have been rebuilding. I disagreed, on both points. They have been spending money and they were trying to compete. They were most certainly not, ever rebuilding. The Yankees don't know what that means and no Steinbrenner will ever be apart of a rebuild.
I don't understand why my or anyone elses points that aren't Pro-NY are so hard to understand. I don't hate the Yankees! I don't hate any team. I just don't like hearing Yankees fans cry about not getting a player, or that something is unfair or a player is disingenuous because he didn't give the Yankees a sit down. The Yankees have spent the last 25 years just buying whomever they wanted, whenever they wanted. They have a great core, w/ Judge/Sanchez and guys like Torres and Frazier coming. They will get Harper and all will be ok for the Yankees.

While true El Guapo, Ohtani has earned the right to do it however he wants in my opinion. I'll always stand behind the player over the owner in any of today's sports. Heck for all we know the kid could just be plain shy and didn't want to tell those teams no up front in the process.

That San Diego is "in on" Eric Hosmer and perhaps also in on Ohtani -- those two signings may be linked.
MLBtraderumors says it’s somewhat surprising to see the Padres pursuing a free agent of this magnitude when they’re not yet expected to contend in 2018. Hosmer is a relatively youthful free agent, having just turned 28 in October, but he’s still expected to command a nine-figure contract, which would not only represent a franchise record for the Padres but would also cost the rebuilding club its third-best pick in next year’s draft due to the fact that Hosmer rejected a $17.2MM qualifying offer from the Royals.
Hosmer is coming off a career year, having slashed .318/.385/.498 with 25 homers — including a ridiculous .336/.402/.532 slash in his final 592 plate appearances after a slow start to the year.
But think about it -- their minors is really stacked with pitching, adding Ohtani and Hosmer and promoting Luis Urias might set up this team to compete a lot sooner than some folks think. Padres are starting to resemble the real thing.
Of course, they have not yet signed either Ohtani or Hosmer. heh heh

I have no idea if Hosmer will get better but, depending on the price I dont hate SD paying him. He's still young, so you're not necessarily paying for a past his prime player. They have the money.
My biggest question, is Wil Myers. He's said he'd play OF. I dont know if I'd want him too though, not if he can't stay healthy. We'll see i guess. All very interesting.

I've read that Stanton turned down a trade to St. Louis & is looking now at 4 teams, Dodgers,Cubs,Astros,Yankees.

Ya, St. Louis and Giants are out. Its going to be the Dodgers, always was. Unless of course, Jeter gives the Yankees a home team discount. You watch, if he goes to N.Y. the Marlins will take back more money than anyone predicted and the package of prospects will be terrible too.
If the Marlins trade Stanton now, it will be a salary dump and nothing more. Dodgers and Yankees know now, they are the only real competition and because neither of them NEED him, they will just sit and wait for Jeter to accept their poo poo platter offer.
I cant imagine how frustrating it must be for Marlins fans. They've dealt with this like 3 times in the last 15 years.

Looks like Stanton wants to be on a World Series winning team (A brilliant observation). The team that eats 100% of his contract will probably get him. Marlins fans will still have Yelich & Realamuto (spelling?). Ozuna will probably go too after Stanton. It must be frustrating for Marlins fans. Jays fans are getting frustrated too, as Encarnation ending up in Cleveland was a major boo-boo! Jays need to do something substantial in order to compete with New York & Boston.

Padres went through this with Jeff Moorad, the only ownership group I know who's bought a team on the "layaway" plan. If you don't have the bucks to run a club then stay out of the game.

Stanton to New York? Stanton is the kind of headline grabber old George would have liked. heh
El Guapo Says: The trade could include sending Starlin Castro and Chase Headley to save some cap, with a handful of NYY's many serious SP prospects headed to Miami. Would also clear 2B for Gleyber Torres and 3B for Miguel Andujar.
What would be the Over/Under on Yankees hitting 260 HRs?
Guess getting under the luxury tax can wait one more year.

What a ridiculous comment, Anthony. Marlins had lined up two deals -- trades with St Cardinals and Los Gigantes fell through. Stanton interviewed and said no thanks. Maybe he wants to play for The New Yorks or The Dodgers, much as Ohanti voiced his preference when choosing the Angels.
You can't have it both ways, Anthony. You either support the player's right to choose or you don't. Or do you change your stance on player's right to choose when the Yankees are involved?
Whatever... Yankees would certainly have some pop in their line-up if they sign Stanton. We think a starter would help them more than added power -- though no doubt signing Stanton will put fans in the stands and in front of their TVs.

Jon Heyman reports the deal is done, pending Stanton's approval, and that Starlin Castro is indeed in the package. The New Yorks have so much prospect depth, especially in SP, which is exactly what Miami needs. Some Yankees super young arms likely pieces of the puzzle...

One of the potential flaws could be that Gary Sanchez, Aaron Judge and Giancarlo Stanton are all rightie bats. That's a helluva middle of the order. Could only be better if even one was a leftie.
Plus, it's potential insurance in case Judge turns into a pumpkin after a pretty remarkable season.
