The Padres are likely sellers and a lot of teams are potential buyers. Here are some deals I think could make sense. Feel free to comment on the proposals with which side would say no and why they’d say no.
Ross and Spangenberg for Chavis
Hedges, Ross, and Spangenberg for Devers Hosmer and Ross for Clint Frazier and Ellsbury(Salary Offset)
Yates and Stammen for Alex Verdugo
Yates for Austin Riley
Hedges and Galvis for Domingo Santana and Tristan Lutz
Tyson Ross for Braden Bishop
Tyson Ross for Richie Martin
Yates and Stammen for McMahon and Tommy Doyle
Yates, Ross, and Spangenberg for Brandon Marsh and Taylor Ward
Hedges and Yates for Kieboom and Luis Garcia

If I didn't already know you were a Pads fan, this post was the give away...Haha.
You're assessment of Hedges, Ross and Spangenberg, compared to the rest of MLB is quite aggressive. Hedges isnt good. Ross has been meh (back rotation with injury history). Spangenberg is maybe a starter on the Marlins? Who is giving up anything for those guys?
I know Pads fans dont want to hear it but that Hosmer contract was underwater the day it was signed. Nobody but SD and KCR was bidding or interested at that price.
That said...I love what SD has done the last couple years. But the only deal on that list thats even reasonably possible is Ross for R. Martin.

If I were SD...
I'd see if anyone is willing to take W. Myers off their hands. Maybe somebody still believes in the ceiling? If so, pair him with Stammen or Yates and thats cap relief + decent return. Top 50 spec and a few B prospects.
Also feel like its Richard, more than Ross that a team may inquire about. Yates or Stammen + Richard.
If anyone likes H. Renfroe, I'd kick the tires on him as well. Stock is low but maybe change of scenery guy?

if I were the pads, id call the yanks and offer to eat ellsbury in a hosmer plus good specs deal.
the downside to that deal is that future FAs may avoid the padres even more if they do that hosmer. ellsbury has a no trade too, not sure what he'd think about it, but realistically, hes an odd man out there anyway, so perhaps if you agreed to release him so he could sign wherever (and still collect his $$) he'd ok the deal. .........edit. just checked and of course hosmer has a no trade. total fantasy baseball deal lol.
I could also see them dealing Myers as mentioned, but he'd require a true haul. however, he is a good fit for teams with 1b need looking to stay under the cap. that feels more like an opportunistic trade tho

I feel like Hand + Cimber was probably the biggest deal SD is going to make. If they can find takers for Ross, Richard, Stammen, Renfroe, Pirela, or any of their placeholder IFs (Spang, Asuaje, Villanueva) then I think it's smart to add to the lower minors and clear out the clutter in preparation for the Urias, Tatis crowd. Hedges seems like a good guy to keep around as insurance against Mejia flopping or as a defensive replacement/backup in the years to come. I wonder if the Pads believe in Yates enough to attempt an extension in the same way they did Hand. He could use exposure as the closer to maximize his value. Maybe next trade deadline he can pull back a top 50 piece.

the other reason to keep hedges is to take away temptation to bring up mejia, let him working on catching in aaa
now of course, if a playoff team needs a defensive catcher and is willing to pay up, you dont say no, but i dont see pressing for a hedges deal

I can see Clint Frazier going for J. Happ. And then which one gets flipped to the Padres? 😁

Clint Frazier is bringing back more than Happ. More like C. Archer.

I would guess somewhere in between maybe, but closer to Happ than to Archer. The plate discipline issues are real and quality pitching is catching an absolute premium right now.

Ehh, its fine. K's are up all across baseball. Frazier was always 20-22% K guy in the minors. Lot of guys struggle with ML pitching their 1st go round. 2 of the best players in the game have 30% K rates (Judge + Stanton). Y. Moncada, one of the most desirable young players in the game, 30% + K rate. Frazier still has above average BB rates, will steal you some bases and plays a quality CF. Also...C. Archer has been just ok for 3 years now. He's always been a 2 pitch pitcher. He's more M. Pineda, than I thinl people want to admit. Frazier + Acevedo + Loasigia or German probably gets it done. Thats also assuming, Rays want to help NYY
