It isn't rounding rules per se. It's just that the minimum/maximum amounts were exceeded here because the dollar amounts were rounded the wrong way. When you multiply the AAS by 0.8, you can't go lower than that no matter what. When you multiply the AAS by 1.2, you can't go higher than that no matter what. Fair enough. Might be worth getting a steer from the LMs on though and, if you're right, making it clear in the rules. Seems unlikely it will matter much here, but could be messy in the future. Not sure how the rules could be more clear. If you want to round, round the way that doesn't make the bid illegal

The lower the salary, the greater the spread you are allowed. It's laid out in the rule on restricted free agency. The question I might have is about rounding to the nearest $100K and the AAS's of Latos in this distribution.

Where in the rules does it mention rounding up? The contract #'s are mathematically correct according to the rules. Latos is not an 80/120 guy...he's a 60/140 guy due to his AAS.
Rob? Scott?

It is written in the rules in Restricted Free Agency. The minimum increment is 100k for any bid or match. In this case you would have to round to 3.3 minimum and 7.5 max since those are within the 60/140 boundaries.

Can't we re-write the rules in such a way that all these fractions are eliminated? Just make matching the bid be final, instead of re-writing the contract. That would eliminate all these fractions and bits and pieces of $$$ and eliminate all these errors and bickering about percentages.

Thx Rob I appreciate the response
I'll adjust accordingly and in the future I'll round up/down to 100k increments and stay within the required percentages.

New York Mets match Rangers bid Matt Thorton 1 year 1.5M Turns out we dealt the Flex tag to Angels along with Garrett Richards trade, so we should not have matched Rangers bid on Matt Thornton. Our bad. Apologies. Wait, so should he have been a RFA at all? Are you saying you didn't actually possess an RFA tag to use on Thornton?

Nah... yet another El Guapo screw up. We did Flex Tag Matt Thornton, and yes, we were allowed to. We just momentarily had a brain fart and thought we screwed up. The tag was proper. The Flex tag we dealt with Richards was for 2016. Everything is correct. Just thought for a moment we had messed up and tried to correct it. It's fine as it is...
We deleted the post saying we made a mistake. We made none. All is in order.
