Colin Moran is a popular guy around here. He's been owned by at least four clubs and, we just discovered, was traded twice within a 4 week period around opening day last year. Unfortunately, and by accident, he was traded from the same team twice in those trades.
I'm being flippant but I do hope GMs will attempt to be consistent about keeping good records and executing transactions in a timely manner this season. It makes things a lot easier on everyone (especially me) if we all follow the guidelines set out in the rules of the league.
To compensate for the oversight with Colin Moran last year, the Giants will be ceding their 2nd round pick in the draft this year to the Pirates. Rick and Ryan are awesome GMs and both have expressed regret about the error. Thanks, guys, for being such good sports and making this an easy issue to iron out.

Tip o' the cap to Rick and Bryan for taking the gentlemanly approach to straightening out the mix-up -- and to Brad, of course.

Two more league announcements...
1) Lance Lynn was classified PP/16 heading into last offseason. The Yankees tagged him and subsequently dealt him to the Blue Jays. Lynn did not throw .1 IP this season, meaning he is given another year of PP control at the league minimum. This presents a quandry as to what to do with the tag, meant for use this offseason. So...
The League admins have decided that the Blue Jays have the option of tagging Lynn this offseason OR keeping Lynn next year at the league minimum as a PP/17 player. The tag is not transferable to next offseason.
2) Due to the untimely passing of Jose Fernandez, and the affect that the uncompensated loss of a player with the proven track record and high expectations of Fernandez can have on a team, the League admins have agree to award the first picks in the compensation rounds following the first and second rounds of this offseason's FYPD to the Orioles.
Thank you to both the Blue Jays and Orioles for their cooperation on these matters.

Interesting situation today. I saw that the Rangers non-tendered Matt Dominguez (see this post for why I am calling it a non-tender) There are parts of his profile that I find intriguing so I thought I would put in a waiver claim. After doing so, I double checked the MLB non-tender process and realized that when an arbitration eligible player is non-tendered they immediately become a free agent and are not subject to waiver claim. I deleted my thread post claiming Dominguez and the following will be added to the rules in short order... - Protected Players (PP) who are released in our 'non-tender' period between the end of the regular season and the beginning of Unrestricted Free Agency (UFA) will be immediately dropped to the free agent pool and will not be subject to waiver claims. This is a relatively minor matter and shouldn't affect anyone's plans this offseason. As a matter of fact, this may be the first time this has ever come up.

Given that many owners are requesting that draft picks can be traded and that deals are being worked out with that in mind, the DGM administrative team has agreed that it wouldn't harm anything to begin allowing draft pick trading to begin.
However, please keep in mind that our draft order is still incomplete! Restricted Free Agent bidding will inevitably result in compensation picks being awarded after the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd rounds so non-first rounders are bound to get bumped down a few spots between now and the beginning of the draft.

General Reminder and Infoshare for New GMs:
One area that is difficult to evaluate in our format is the value of Tags. The decision of what type of Tags to designate takes a lot of things into account - $, draft pick compensation, control, how other GMs might value this or that player differently. I recommend everyone read through the rules on RFA before your Tag designations have to be finalized at the turn of the New Year (yes, you may edit your designations until that point). There is one part of our Resricted Free Agency process that is often misunderstood or overlooked by GMs, especially those going through it for the first time. Thus this informational post...
from Rule 7: Restricted Free Agency...
"MATCHING OR DECLINING
The GM who held the restricted player has 48 hours to match the winning bid. The holder of the tag only has to match the AAS, they do not have to match the years and can rearrange the salaries as they see fit for their team, as long as they are following the guidelines for salary spread stated in Rule 6.
Here are the guidelines for the tag holder on deciding the years of the contract.
If AAS <= $3M, 1 - 5 years. If the offer is 500k - 700k you can only contract for 1 or 2 years at this salary, but you have the option to raise the offer to 800k and contract for 3 or 4 years If AAS > $3M, 2 - 5 years If AAS > $9M, 3 - 5 years If AAS > $15M, 4 - 5 years"
So if someone bids on a RFA player you have tagged this year (say 4yr/$32M, $8M AAS evenly spread) then you, as the tag holder, can say 'I'll match and make the deal 2 yr at $8M AAS'. Or conversely, you can take the extra year and make it a 5 year deal at $8M AAS. This part of the RFA rule can give a pretty big advantage to RFA tag holders.

Draft Pick Trading
Picks can now be traded, as opposed to waiting for the end of Restricted Free Agency (RFA) like we have in the past.
It is important to remember that compensation picks can be awarded at the end of the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd rounds to GMs who lose players in RFA.
For example, if you trade for the 1st pick of the 2nd round, you will end up picking 31st OR LOWER depending on how many comp picks occur at the end of the 1st round. Those picks will be assigned at the end of our RFA period in December.

New 9th Place TournamentIn response to concerns about having something for all GMs to engage in during our playoffs, we have decided to hold our first annual 9th place tournament concurrent with our 4 week playoffs at the end of the ML regular season. The details...- All non-playoff teams will be participants in this exclusive tournament (22 teams total)
- Scoring for the tournament will be the same format as our regular season (i.e. cumulative roto points)
- The winner of the tournament, along with bragging rights as DGM's 9th best team, will also win the "Mr Irrelevant Prize" - the last pick in the subsequent FYPD.
I know, I know. What is the incentive for making the ACTUAL playoffs with such an amazingly awesome consolation tournament? Dig deep, everyone. Dig deep.

It's pick 5.31. It's more for just fun and to keep owners engaged. I would rather be in the tournament to win the league than the one to add a C spec to the back of my roster.

Why does the 9th place team get a reward when 1-8 has no incentives lol I would like to invite all teams strong enough to make the playoffs to strategically miss them in order to have a chance at pick 5.31. But really, I couldn't think of a less valuable asset than pick 5.31. Something fun to play for but certainly won't skew the competitive balance of the league.
