Here is the beginning of the discussion about how to improve revocable waivers, copied and pasted from the shoutbox
Brewers GM (Brad): FYI. This has been, by far, the most active revocable waiver period I've seen. Lots of trades and 10 teams posting (and remembering to pull back) their players. We'll look at how to tighten up the rules - make the whole thing a little more simple, ... Edit Aug 23, 2018 at 9:06am x
Brewers GM (Brad): ...better timed, and less punitive - over the offseason. Aug 23, 2018 at 9:08am x
Orioles GM (Ben): Sounds like a good idea. Makes my head hurt a bit. Aug 23, 2018 at 2:51pm x
Brewers GM (Brad): Mine too. That's why I haven't done it yet. Aug 24, 2018 at 12:53pm x
Rays GM (Kyle): without putting too much thought into it...what if we made it more like real life. and if someone goes unclaimed you do not need to pull them back they are just free to trade until the end of the regular season. claimed players remain the same Aug 24, 2018 at 3:25pm x
Rays GM (Kyle): with 48 hours to complete a trade or pull back Aug 24, 2018 at 3:26pm x
MetsGM (El Guapo): We like Kyle's idea of leaving guys left unclaimed available to trade at any time until the end of the trading period. Aug 24, 2018 at 6:33pm x
Braves (Tim): In real life if you want to trade for a guy to use in the playoffs, you have to deal for him 1 month before the the reg season ends, so allowing trades now with one week left before playoffs would be less like real life. Aug 25, 2018 at 7:54am x
Brewers GM (Brad): We can put up a thread to discuss ideas of what it can look like, maybe during one of the lulls in the offseason. Aug 25, 2018 at 8:58am x
MetsGM (El Guapo): Biggest concern is losing a player because we forgot to pull him off revocable waivers. Aug 25, 2018 at 12:27pm * x
Marlins GM (Anthony): Tim - We could just move the trade deadline up. yesterday at 2:16pm x
Marlins GM (Anthony): Time it so revocable waivers lines up a month before the end of OUR season yesterday at 2:17pm x
Marlins GM (Anthony): Down for whatever though, honestly. yesterday at 2:17pm x
Braves (Tim): yeah, I'm fine with discussing, tho don't see any big issues. if guapo is worried about forgetting stuff, we can make retaining the player the default for rev waivers, and follow up only needed if you wish to release the player. Some leagues do that. 5 hours ago x
MetsGM (El Guapo): Auto retention would work (automatic revocation), and if an owner doesn't want to retain a waived player, that GM can simply announce he his releasing. We would be in accord with that.
