Sometimes there are misspelling and such that can skew Search results, but for the most part proboards provides a timeline for who actually owns the player. Fantrax only identifies on whose roster he currently appears.

I think that Mgrs. need to keep their fantrax pages up to date, as well as proboards. If a Mgr. has not picked up his player at fantrax, maybe he has an illegal roster & the player not picked up should be fair game.

I use fantrax to check for available players. It is much easier to sort on their instead of having to check everyone roster on Proboard. If everyone would keep Frantrax up to date it would make it much easier. Although i understand not all prospects are on Fantrax

I'm in five dynasty leagues, all deep leagues, all using Proboards for rostering. Four use Fantrax and one ESPN. Proboards should rule in my opinion. My example is in another league I'm in I've just made a trade that brings in one more player than I'm able to roster for my MLB roster. I have 48 hours to rectify the roster situation by rule. In the meantime I've claimed an MiLB player that is now on my Proboards roster but I can't put him on my Fantrax roster till I've resolved my MLB roster which has 24 more hours to go. I don't think Garcia should be eligible for another GM to pick (which he would be here in certain cases) when I'm following the rules as written which leave him exposed to claim until I resolve my roster. Just my two cents. That's a very specific case, that's probably been broadcast across the league and I doubt the commish would vote against your stance. But like many have said, there are reasons why ProBoards should be the definitive list. When the season starts though, people need to pick up their players. They've had enough time. Not saying people should start scouring for players to poach. But managing your roster ACCURATELY on both ProBoards and Fantrax is Fantasy 101. If you can't do that then... You make a good point and I can't argue that position either. I've tried to be diligent across the leagues in picking up said players. Nother I hate worse than being in an airport getting ready to board and seeing a "FA" on Fantrax only to find out later he's taken. So I get that point too, no question. I just don't want to see someone lose a player they've worked to get because the filled out the "paperwork" but didn't get the guy on Fantrax.

Every league I'm in uses Fantrax as the main roster. This is normally due to the limits that are set on there and the fact it stops people gaming the system by not adding players when they have a roster crunch.
I wouldn't change it. It's not about another team poaching it's about making sure YOU as the GM of your team are keeping your own stuff up to date.
If it's a new GM who may not know they have guys on their roster then Brad has shown that he will give compensation. It might not be a perfect method but it's what we have and have always had. Everyone agrees to the rules when they join.
I always say, as Guapo brings this up every year, that if someone wants to check all 30 rosters to make sure they match Fantrax then they can go ahead and do it. Funnily enough no one ever offers.

This is our last post: Our issue is that Fantrax is for scoring, not for tracking ownership. It only lets GMs know which team has the player on its roster. To track ownership -- follow the "paper trail" -- we need to use proboards. And if the guy is owned on proboards, shouldn't that take priority? This is how/where the "poaching" comes in. If someone takes an un-owned player off Fantrax, we see no reason why he has more of a right to the player than does the rightful owner, tracked and identified through a Search of past posts. Fantrax does not give us that history, only proboards does -- that's the very reason why all the leagues we are in run their operation off proboards. Fantrax for scoring. Proboards for daily operations. If you really want to know who owns a player, you run a Search on Proboards. If you just want to see who may have slipped through the cracks and appears available, you use Fantrax. To us, that smells bad, like not really wanting to know who owns a player. Snagging someone else's player(s) has happened too many times to be a coincidence.
