Figured I'd create a new post if anyone's interested in some general baseball conversation. Thought it'd be cool to make a few 2nd half predictions. Not your typical, boring predictions but more bold predictions. Things I think COULD happen but less likely.
Yankees fall out of the race, trade Tanaka because they have no interest in bringing him back and because he's an injury risk they lose him for pennies to...Nationals?
If the Cubs are fighting to get in the playoffs, then attempt to save embarrassment and do something stupid like trade Eloy Jimenez to TB for Chris Archer. Opposite side, they fall out of the race and trade J. Arrieta to Houston.
Toronto trades Donaldson to Houston in a package built around A. Bregman.
Kansas City has a mini fire sale of their own, trading Moose to Boston (not that bold I guess because I think this actually happens). Hosmer stays, because nobody but Houston needs a 1B but they're smarter than that...
Detroit trades both JD Martinez and Justin Verlander (eating some of Verlander money) and start their semi-rebuild (Sorry Miggy)
Washington wins the East by 25 games. Atlanta finishes 2nd.
Milwaukee actually pulls the trigger, acquires J. Quintana from the White Sox.
Dodgers trade for Andrew McCutchen. SD finishes w/ a better record than SFG.
Carlos Correa wins MVP in the AL
Bryce Harper wins MVP in the NL
Chris Sale wins Cy in AL
Scherzer wins Cy in NL

Haha...and just now Cubs trade for Quintana. Giving up Eloy...even worse. Good grief...

** Interesting Quintana return for Chisox; Dylan Cease and Eloy Jimenez - couple of our baby Mets. heh
** Nice call on Correa for MVP. He's almost as good as Aaron Judge, and Houston leads the West by a ton.
** McCutchen to LA seems a reach, with Dodgers stacked up in the OF already.
** Why would Toronto want Bregman? They have Two-ton Vlad Guerrero Jr. in their pipeline.
** "nobody but Houston needs a 1B" Huh?
** "Detroit ... start their semi-rebuild" Tigers won't get much to rebuild with for that pair.
Bold Prediction: Despite having Quintana and Sale, Chicago Cubs and Boston Red Sox prove to be meh to mediocre and barely make the playoffs - both out in 1st Round.

BOLD Guapo! BOLD! It's no fun saying "Houston will win the AL West...Washington will win the NL East..." I'm not saying these things will happen, but it's possible. And I was right about the Cubs and Eloy...amazingly in the same day.
Dodgers don't need an OF'er? You'd rather have Chris Taylor, Joc and Puig over McCutchen in 2017? Dodgers are one of the 3 best teams in baseball and I bet their FO disagrees. They could use an upgrade in that OF even if temporary.
As for Bregman to Toronto. If you're Toronto and you do decide to move Donaldson you're doing it for the best collection of assets possible. Houston is one of those such teams. A team capable of winning it all w/ excess assets. You're not worried about a guy who's 18 months away from making his big league debut. Bregman, was also a SS in the minors. He can play the OF too in a pinch I'm sure.
When I say Houston is the only team that needs a 1B I'm saying contenders. 1B is the deepest position in baseball this year, few teams NEED or would give up much for one. Yonder is a possibility too, in Houston.
I agree, Verlander won't bring back much but if Detroit eats a lot of the salary they will. JD Martinez, even if a rental is a Top 20 OF'er. They'll get good pieces for them if they decide to move them.
You harping on Boston and Chicago is kind of funny...Boston and Chicago, along w/ NYY and Houston have the best collection of young talent in baseball. Boston, has the 4th best record in baseball and they haven't played that well. I'm not sure what you want from them? Not every contender can win 105 games. Baseball is hard.

** ** Why would Toronto want Bregman? They have Two-ton Vlad Buerrero Jr. in their pipeline. I think that is why they would want him. They probably don't think Vlad Jr. can stick at 3b long term and is 1b/DH only.

Vlad jnr isn't sticking at 3B long term. It's more likely Devers does and his footwork is poor.
Bold predictions:
- Mets get their pitching healthy and go on a tear. Winning 50 games in the second half.
- White Sox call up Moncada and he K's in 50% of his AB before getting sent back down before September.
- Wade Miley has an ERA below 4 in the second half. Might be the boldest prediction you see all year.
