Salary Question Clarification

With a bunch of Cuban/Asian players signing MLB contracts without having to go through the MLB draft, what contract status should they have? Our rules state:

Any team that drafts a player currently designated as a free agent shall inherit whatever contract they sign in real life. All Protected Players (less than 4 years service time) will cost $500k. All players short of the 50IP/150AB criteria will be free and considered eligible for the Minor League Draft.


Example: Yasiel Puig  has a salary according to Cott's as follows:

Shouldn't his contract for this season be $4.5M not $500k as a PP-2017 player. Aren't the PP players ones that go through the arbitration process?

Also American players who sign extensions prior to the end of their their PP years have to go by those salaries don't they?

Shouldn't his salary this year be $2.5M?

This league gives you the option to choose RL or PP

If you choose PP the player has to within his 4 years following passing 50/150 limits.

PP would make a player .5m until the end of his PP years.

Passed 50/150 in 2011: PP15
Passed in 2012: PP16
2013: PP17
2014: PP18
Hasn't yet passed: free until they do

Rusney Castillo is signed to a RL contract, but you can take him as a prospect, and he is free right now... 500k after he surpasses 150 AB. 500k a year after that. so 5 years of control vs a RL contract of 14:$0.1M, 15:$10.5M, 16:$10.5M, 17:$10.5M, 18:$11M, 19:$11M, 20:$13.5M.
Determine what you like, but IMO, free is better.

And if you draft a guy like Puig you get the option of either having him as a PP or his real life contract. This only applies to players who are a PP and have a long term contract such as Puig.

Man. I'm not mad at the question but why are we asking these now instead of earlier in the week.

Getting puig or rendon at PP was HUGE reason I dealt up to 1.1.

Rob can confirm or clarify, but:

For the purposes of just this inaugural draft we would consider anyone who signed before 7/2 2014 and is under 50/150 will be Milb eligble regardless of age, such as Dariel Alvarez.

Anyone signed July 2nd 2014 and after that is over 23 goes to MLB draft for this year, such as Rusney and Tomas. 23 under go Milb

We are making an exception and allowing Moncada, Ibanez and Olivera to be draft eligible even if they do not sign prior to the draft. what scott said, his clarification about date of signing matters, someone like Kyuji Fujikawa will go milb, only the older intls that signed RECENTLY will go into the MLB draft. basically the cubans and kang generally speaking.

well, puig is pp-17, you can take his real life contract, but you don't have to. for any guy that's got a real life contract if he's still in pp years as far as time in mlb, you can opt for either.

as for MLB or MiLB draft. most all the guys that are not yet 150/50, will go milb. the exceptions are just the intls 24yo+ that signed since last summer, so Castillo, Kang, Tomas, Olivera, Ibanez. Maybe there are some more obscure ones? but that list isn't long (I know Olivera and Ibanez haven't signed yet but we made exceptions). So rather than make it seem complicated its basically just a few older intls that signed real MLB deals RECENTLY rather than bonuses. If someone has any others they are concerned about we can clarify who else might have to go to MLB draft, just ask.

We have been discussing Moncada draft eligibility for a week and saying we are allowing him in milb draft, the exception was added to the rules for initial draft
