heads up, greiner is technically still a prospect so can't be bid on until he hits 150ABs ignore that, we had a rule change on that, guys rostered in mlb irl can be bid on like any other free agent (same contract structure as any other free agent, etc). That rule change applied specifically to in season FA bidding. Still need the 150/50 to be eligible for off-season UFA. " In Season Amendment: Beginning with the 2018 regular season, unowned players under the 50/150 thresholds will be eligible for bidding as long as they were on a real life MLB roster 1) the previous Friday and 2) at the time of nomination. All bidding regulations apply (e.g. contract structures, salary spread, bid increments, etc.) This only applies to In Season free agency." dynastygmbaseball.proboards.com/thread/7/6-free-agent-process-bidding

Well, at least now I know I didnt waste everyone's time by pointing out Greiner's prospect status.

Won’t this just mean that in the first week of the season they’ll be an auction for all of the players who weren’t eligible as UFAs but are eligible once the season opens?

Won’t this just mean that in the first week of the season they’ll be an auction for all of the players who weren’t eligible as UFAs but are eligible once the season opens? it's fair question, and I don't remember exactly the genesis of this, but id say the one difference between off/in season would be if a guy gets a few ABs in September, but then doesn't make the MLB squad in April and doesn't get called up to the show until post-ASB. -- in that case, the guy will be eligible for signing bonus spec bidding vs if we let him get bid on now he would go for a contract now he won't be a free agent during spec bidding. Here that is unlikely to matter for greiner who is expected to break camp in the show, but that sort of thing may happen every once in a while. So, thats the main difference I see. The counterbalance to that tho is that will be somewhat rare simply because the guy also has to go undrafted (since the draft is before ufa bidding and hes draft eligible).

I guess I would argue that everyone below the 50IP 150AB threshold should be eligible for spec bidding (subject to the overseas player exemption), but that if we allow FA bidding on any undrafted spec who has >1IP/1AB that should apply both in and out of season. Just feels anomalous otherwise. But a pretty minor thing, so will shut up now!!

When you're dealing with players who 1) have not been drafted or signed during spec bidding and 2) are therefore far from guaranteed an opening day roster spot, it seems only right to wait until they are actually in the Majors before making them eligible free agency. DGM has not gone down the path of signing bonuses for in season call-ups, as many leagues like this do, for a handful of reasons. The inseason rules for FA bidding on guys under the AB/IP thresholds were put in place so that GMs didn't have to miss out on ML production waiting for a player to hit the threshold.

Looks like Billy Hamilton was signed by Texas. I nominated players still listed at fantrax. I guess he hasn't picked up Hamilton at fantrax yet.
