Here is the rule governing paying players who are under contract when they retire...

"Should a player that is under contract retire - whether officially or just from an inability to find a roster spot - the team that owns his contract is still obligated to pay him half of his annual salary for the length of his deal. The rationale of this rule is to prevent GM's from offering long and back-loaded contracts to older players as a strategy in Free Agent auctions."

Given that 1) the contract offered to Kendrick was obviously not back-loaded and that 2) the timing of our RFA is so early in the offseason (i.e. if Hendrick were a UFA, this would have been no issue at all), we are going to allow Mario a "take-back" of this contract offer.
